Mary Ekroos has worked for 48 years as a professional artist, with art in some form being her source of income.
She studied with classically trained, professional artist parents, but for the most part learned through her own experimentation, because at that time representational art was not generally taught or accepted.
For many years, as well as doing commissions in landscapes and marines in various mediums, she carried out a large number of portrait commissions and also has done a number of large murals, some as large as 7 1/2'x 15'. These commissions hang in corporate as well as private collections across the US and in Europe.
Over the years Mary Ekroos has taught, through organizations and privately, both workshops and classes, her painting methods.
Mary has won awards in many regional shows and has been accepted into national and regional juried ASMA shows as well as in Mystic, Conn. juried shows and TCVAC's national juried show where her painting won "Best In Show".
It was one of those hot, hot, summer afternoons and I was prowling the countryside looking for subject matter when I happened upon this inviting scene. There was no shady place from which to paint, so I parked my van positioned away from the light, opened the hatch and threw a large white sheet over it to create my own patch of shade. Fortunately, or unfortunately, the hot weather continued and I returned for two more painting sessions at that location before I was satisfied with the outcome.
